Katie's Gold
By Tom Mitcheltree
Katie's Gold is an exciting amateur sleuth tale but it is the antagonist who captures and holds the reader's attention. The killer is so single minded and determined, that he will use whatever means necessary, including murder to get what he wants.

Book Description
Paul Fischer wanted nothing more than to start fresh in Maine, teaching at a small private college. Sure it wasn't his school of choice, but after dealing with a recent, ugly divorce, the separation from his two boys, and pushing back the memories of his book research on the Baker family fortune of Oregon's Rogue River Valley behind him, Paul was trying to make the best out of his second-rate teaching job. He'd had his fill of treachery, deceit, and lies (Katie's Will).
But Paul's fresh start barely began when a couple of break-ins and a nocturnal attacker sent him whirling back into the past, back to the Rogue River Valley, and back to Pam Livingston's claim on the Baker money. After carefully sifting through his ransacked apartment, car, and office, the only things found missing were bits of information about the Bakers. He felt fortunate that he had left all of the truly important research buried next to Katie Baker's grave back in Oregon. It was safe, but for how long?
After a few phone calls, Paul had learned that Nora Ryan, Pam's coconspirator of deceit, had been viciously attacked, and Pam's law office had been broken into. It was time for him return to the Rogue River Valley.
Paul's arrival brought up a cauldron of emotions, what was he going to feel when he came face to face with Pam again, the woman he had shared a bed with, the woman who had lied to him and tricked him into finding evidence to prove she was the Baker heir? And how was she going to react to him, the man she knew held the secret to her claim, and the man who righteously decided to deny her the truth?
Putting an icy welcome aside, both Pam and Paul knew they were dealing with something much darker and twisted than their past; together they had to find out who was desperate enough to beat up an elderly woman for information on the Bakers, desperate enough to kill.
